James W. “Pete” Campbell


(1920-1999) | Pete Campbell joined the Army Air Force in 1943 and flew B-24’s tallying 56 combat missions in the South Pacific. He join the FAA in 1960 and established what became Flight Instructor Refresher Courses that reduced the CFI accident rate by 50%. In 1971 he created another significant safety program addressing Accident Prevention. Pete was one of the first three inducted into the Flight Instructors Hall of Fame in 1997. He and Evelyn Johnson were both Tennesseans.
